IE4 is the highest efficiency class defined by IEC 60034-30-1 for three-phase asynchronous motors. It further reduces losses compared with IE3 and is the most cost-effective choice for plants running many hours a year, where lower consumption quickly pays back the higher initial cost.
Since 1 July 2021, EU Regulation 2019/1781 requires at least efficiency class IE3 in Europe for three-phase asynchronous motors with 2, 4, 6 and 8 poles from 0.75 to 1000 kW, and at least IE2 from 0.12 to 0.75 kW. Since 1 July 2023, 2-, 4- and 6-pole motors from 75 to 200 kW must be class IE4 (brake motors and motors for explosive atmospheres excluded).
